Maritime Arrivals Reporting System (MARS)

What is MARS?

The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources is developing a new system called the Maritime Arrivals Reporting System (MARS). MARS is an online web portal for commercial vessel masters and shipping agents to submit pre-arrival documents required of all international vessel seeking Australian biosecurity clearance.

Where is the system build up to?

MARS is a significant project for the department. System development is progressing well with full implementation for commercial vessels planned for 2016.

The department is currently undertaking Industry Assurance Testing (IAT) to ensure industry facing MARS functionality is ‘fit for business’. In addition, IAT:

  • Provides an opportunity to have hands-on experience with MARS.
  • Enables industry to identify their own transition and change management activities.
  • Provides input into the training and communication packs for MARS users.

Who will use MARS?

MARS will be used by all international vessel masters and shipping agents who undertake functions to meet Department of Agriculture pre-arrival reporting requirements and associated biosecurity vessel clearance at the Australian border.

In 2016, MARS will be used by all international, commercial vessels types
