David Singleton, the CEO and managing director of Poseidon Nickel, will take over as CEO at shipbuilder Austal.

AAP and others report that Andrew Bellamy has tendered his resignation as CEO and managing director of the WA-based Austal, and will be shadowed by Singleton until Singleton officially commences as CEO on April 4. He will begin as CEO-designate next month.

“(Mr Bellamy) has grown the business impressively over (his tenure) with revenue increasing threefold and record profits reported,” John Rothwell, chairman at Austal, said in a statement.

“Austal is extremely well positioned for further growth in both Australia and the US.”

Singleton has extensive experience in the defence industry. This includes four years as CEO of BAE Systems and Finmeccanica joint venture Alenia Marconi Systems.
