The Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron and Portsmith Marine Precinct will come alive as the Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) and Marine Jobs proudly present the Cairns Maritime Jobs & Careers Expo 2024.

This FREE-to-attend event stands as a pivotal platform that showcases the expansive range of career opportunities within the Cairns maritime sector. The main activity will be occurring from the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron, with the Cairns Marine Precinct shipyards and Tingira St activated for attendees to gain the following experiences:

  • Live demonstrations
  • Information sessions, Q&A’s and presentations
  • Shipyard and on-water tours
  • Direct connections to job and career opportunities
  • Free training and Education advice
  • Drive the TAFE Queensland Great Barrier Reef International Marine College simulators

We invite local marine industry businesses, training providers, recruitment agencies & other organisations that support the Cairns marine industry supply chain to EXPRESS YOUR INTEREST in participating in the event.  There is NO CHARGE associated with participating as a business at the event.

The expo intends to showcase job vacancies and career opportunities across the diverse operations of Cairns maritime industries.  All expressions of interest will be assessed for suitability, and you will be contacted to formally confirm if you are approved to participate in early May.

ON-WATER IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCES AND SHIPYARD TOURS

Exclusive on-water experiences and shipyard tours will be available throughout the day from the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron, providing attendees with an in-depth look at the scope of the maritime industry, including:

  • Tours of the TAFE Queensland – Great Barrier Reef International Marine College and local shipyards of Norship, Austal, North Marine and Tropical Reef Shipyard will provide real-life experiences
  • Shoreline and Mandingalbay Authentic Indigenous Tours will offer trips around Admiralty Island and into the Trinity Inlet.
  • International shipping company Svitzer will provide direct conversations with their engineers, along with hosting above and below-deck tours on a range of their vessels.

 

INDUSTRY INFORMATION SESSIONS AND PRESENTATIONS

Industry-led expert panel discussions and presentations will be hosted throughout the day at The Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron muster point, covering topics such as;

  • Tertiary engineering roles required for the region’s future workforce,
  • Entry-level positions and pathways
  • Trade apprenticeships
  • Women in maritime
  • Defence industry pathways
  • Superyacht opportunities
  • Immediate employment needs for the Cairn’s tourism sector
