In a major win for Queensland’s boating community, Australia’s leading marine infrastructure powerhouse, has been awarded the contract to deliver a full-scale replacement of the prestigious Southport Yacht Club Marina on the Gold Coast.
This landmark project follows the highly successful installation of the club’s mega yacht berth, which has drawn some of the world’s most luxurious superyachts to the region. Now, the redevelopment is set to transform the entire marina into a state-of-the-art facility, reinforcing Southport Yacht Club’s reputation as a world-class boating destination.
The upgraded marina will feature a stunning 273-berth layout, with a staged replacement of seven piers and more than 250 pontoons, including several dedicated superyacht berths. True to form, Marine Structures will deploy its proven range of low-maintenance commercial pontoon systems – widely regarded as the best on the market for durability, performance, and long-term value.
Key to the redevelopment are the Mega Elite and Super Elite pontoon systems. “Our Superior pontoons with external structural beams deliver exceptional structural integrity and stability,” said Marine Structures Director John Hogan. “With greater mass, and smarter concrete and GFRP reinforcement design, these pontoons are engineered to perform and built to stand the test of time.”
These cutting-edge pontoons feature a unique five-sided design and proprietary joining technology, delivering a high degree of structural integrity and stability. The design provides enhanced performance – engineering excellence that ensures the pontoons will withstand the test of time.
In addition, the project will see the installation of metered power and water pedestals, as well as 600mm cast alloy horn bollards on large berths, ensuring both form and function meet the highest standards of marina design.
“This project represents the next chapter in our long-standing partnership with Marine Structures,” said Brett James, General Manager of Southport Yacht Club. “It’s a relationship built on trust, innovation, and a shared commitment to delivering world-class marine infrastructure that will serve our members and the broader boating community for generations to come.”
